UBC Theatre and Film produces and hosts many performances, talks, and screenings throughout the year. Read below for information about venues, parking, accessibility, campus amenities, show information and audience etiquette to best prepare for your visit. As you get ready for your trip to campus, please double-check your ticket to see which of these three theatres you will be visiting — Frederic Wood, Telus Studio Theatre, or the Dorothy Somerset Studio.

Frederic Wood Theatre

This 400-seat, 1960s theatre, has a proscenium stage with fly tower, traps, and a built-in revolve.

The Telus Studio at the Chan Centre

A classic black-box style theatre with a 250 seat capacity.

Dorothy Somerset Studio

A quaint black box theatre seating 50–75 audience members.

6361 University Boulevard, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z2

The closest parking can be found at the West Parkade at 2140 Lower Mall.

Bike Share

Frederic Wood Theatre

The Frederic Wood Theatre has a wheelchair accessible section and an elevator that goes to a wheelchair accessible bathroom.

The Telus Studio

The entrance to the theatre is accessible through the front entrance. The Studio can be set up in various configurations. Towers D and H have a total of eight spaces, four in each section, for accessibility requirements. There is an accessibility ramp between towers B and C to access spaces on the main floor. Please note that there is no accessible seating on the second and third level of the Telus. Find the basic floor plan here.

Dorothy Somerset Studio

What are the box office hours?

The box office opens two hours before performances for patrons to pick-up or purchase physical tickets for that evening's event.

When do the doors open?

The doors open one hour prior to the show. Come mingle in the lobby of the Frederic Wood or Telus Theatre and enjoy a drink or snack at the concession stand.

What if I arrive late?

Latecomers will only be permitted inside during a pause in the performance. An usher will let you in and show you to your seat at the appropriate time. The timings are at the discretion of the event organizer/presenter.

What about cell phones and recording?

Please turn off your phone during the performance. Sounds, vibrations, and lights can be very distracting for your fellow patrons and the actors on stage. Recording videos and taking photos on your cell phone are not permitted and professional photography and videography equipment are strictly prohibited.

What is available at the concession? 

We have a selection of coffee, tea, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. A small variety of snacks are also available. Drinks and snacks are allowed in the lobby only. We are cashless and only accept payment via credit or debit card.

Is there a lost and found?

Enjoy a 10% discount to Koerner's Pub! Just show your ticket to receive your discount. There are also many other restaurants close by. We also recommend Gallery Patio and Lounge and Mercante. Want more options? Visit one of the many places on University Boulevard Central.

The Rose Garden

A quick walk from the theatre are picturesque ocean and mountain views. Stroll through the garden and see over more than a dozen types of roses in bloom between June and September.

The campus is home to seven galleries and museums including the Museum of Anthropology, Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, Beaty Biodiversity Museum, and the Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.
