Graduated with a BA in Film and TV Studies in 2002, Sidney Chiu has been recognized as the Arts recipient on a well-deserved 2019-2020 Alumni Builder Award! The Arts Alumni Engagement team and the UBC Faculty of Arts, recognize him as a dedicated alumni champion embodying all the admirable qualities that the Alumni Builder Award represents.
From co-founding the UBC Film Production Alumni Association (FPAA) in 2007 and serving as its President for several years, fostering valuable relationships in the community that helped elevate the Program’s profile, to advocating for the Tri-Mentorship Program to be an integral part of the Film Production curriculum and recognizing the significance of connecting students with industry professionals, his passionate commitment to his alma mater has been much appreciated.
Since relocating to Toronto, he has continued his efforts as one of our most supportive ambassadors, advising alumni UBC on programming initiatives in the region to include cultural experiences, and always exploring opportunities to build and strengthen the alumni network in the Greater Toronto Area while bringing alumni together to engage and celebrate.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the public health crisis, The Arts Alumni Engagement team and the UBC Faculty of Arts were unable to commemorate Sidney’s recognition, and publicly give him his beautiful gift, as they would have liked to: in-person. They are, however, happy to share a special message to him and his fellow 2020 Alumni Builder Award recipients from UBC President Santa Ono: https://bit.ly/3eb7J8A
