More than $289 million in funding to support social sciences and humanities research across Canada was announced by Karim Bardeesy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions this week. The funding, awarded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), supports 1,788 social sciences and humanities research projects and partnerships.
A total of 121 projects led by UBC researchers were awarded $16.6 million through SSHRC’s Insight, Insight Development, and Partnership Development Grant programs and we’re thrilled to share that five of those are led by UBC Theatre and Film faculty.
Insight Grants
Insight Grants support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. Funding is available to both emerging scholars and established scholars for research initiatives of two to five years.

Insight Development Grants
Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages and enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Funding is provided for short-term projects of up to two years.
