You’re not going to want to miss this UBC Theatre and Film elective: Theatre Improv with Allen Morrison. Term 2 (THTR440A). Jan. 3 – April 6, 2018, Monday and Wednesday, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
Improvisation is the building block of all performance. Students will learn to create theatre out of thin air, in the moment and on the spot. An in-depth exploration of improvisation as a catalyst for theatrical development and presentation, they will learn to harness their impulses and build memorable characters and scenarios using a wide range of improv skills and techniques. Both “short form” and “long form” styles will be explored. A high level of in-class participation will be required culminating in two public improv shows.

Allen Morrison
A BFA Acting alumnus of UBC Theatre and Film, Allen has been a mainstage performer with Vancouver Theatre Sports League since 2008. He has been a member of the VTSL Education Faculty since 2010 and he is also currently an instructor with the VTSL Improv Comedy Institute. He has performed in a multitude of different improv shows with local Vancouver companies; Instant Theatre, The Fictionals, Matterhorn, Urban Improv, The Justice Pals, Rock/Paper/Scissors etc. and can be seen on the last Wednesday of every month in The Critical Hit Show, now in it’s third year. He has performed in shows and festivals across North America and Europe, having shared the stage with improv legends Colin Mocherie and Ryan Styles to name a few. He is an acting coach and improv instructor with Some Assembly Required and is one of the head sketch comedy writers with both the Urban Jester and Grimaldi’s Asylum sketch troupes.
