Jimmy Lo is a filmmaker and aspiring film educator from Hong Kong, known for completing his first feature documentary titled “Stories of Pang Jai” (2020). This film was executive produced by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Ruby Yang and received funding from Hong Kong Arts Development Council and Hong Kong Documentary Initiative. The film gained recognition and was nominated for the Human Rights Award at South Taiwan Film Festival 2020. It was screened in Hong Kong, Canada, United States, United Kingdom and Sweden. Currently, Jimmy is working on his upcoming documentary film, which explores the recent Hong Kong diaspora in Canada. Jimmy is an IAR Fellow for the Centre for Chinese Research at the Institute of Asian Research, SPPGA, UBC.

Before pursuing his MFA Film Production at UBC, Jimmy taught tutorials for an undergraduate film production course and documentary production workshops for a master’s degree course at The University of Hong Kong from 2018 to 2022. Prior to teaching at HKU, two of his students’ documentaries “Granny” (2018) and “Doorway” (2018) garnered Honorary Mentions at the Sundance Film Festival HK in 2018 and 2019 and publicly screened at MOViE MOViE Festival – LIFE IS ART, Sundance Film Festival HK, Hong Kong International Documentary Festival and Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
