About

Donald E. Soule (B.A. Yale, M.A. Wisconsin, Ph.D. Stanford) was a founding figure in UBC’s Department of Theatre and Film. Joining UBC in the 1960s, he taught directing, theatre history, and one of the university’s first film courses, while directing numerous Frederic Wood Theatre productions, including Ghost Sonata, Oedipus, and Macbeth. He also served as Assistant Dean of Arts and contributed thoughtful criticism to the Canadian Theatre Review. Dr. Soule retired in 1984 and passed away in 2015.
