Carlett Decker is an Ecuadorian screenwriter, director, and producer, currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Film Production & Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia. Her research and creative practice centre on the profound critical role of cinema as a means of self-discovery, analysis, and individual and collective healing. Working from a Latina and female perspective, Carlett prioritizes a collaborative and humanistic approach to filmmaking, often working with non-actors and leveraging real locations to amplify the emotional authenticity of her fictional works. She is dedicated to crafting vivid, cross-genre screenplays that utilize a distinctive blend of social drama, dark comedy, and science-fiction elements to explore the psychological depths of characters grappling with violence and to celebrate the resilience of the human spirit. Her short films have achieved international recognition, premiering at prestigious festivals in Italy, Chile, and Canada. Her project development has been further supported by her selection for acclaimed industry programs, including Buenos Aires Talents and the Berlinale Talents network, as well as workshops with award-winning screenwriters and producers.
