Angela Morrison is a PhD Candidate in Cinema & Media Studies. She received both her B.A. and Master’s degrees in Cinema Studies at the University of Toronto. Her dissertation project is focused on contemporary melodramatic pop divas, and specifically explores gender, sexuality, and emotion in performances by stars such as Mariah Carey, RuPaul, and Lady Gaga. Her previous freelance music and film criticism has been published in Exclaim, and forthcoming academic publications will appear in the Irish Journal of Gothic and Horror Studies(2024) and the Oxford Handbook of Media and Vocality (2025).
