Poster CATRThe Canadian Association for Theatre Research annual national conference will be hosted by UBC as part of Congress (https://www.congress2019.ca/) from June 3 to 6, 2019. This year’s Congress theme is “Circles of Conversation,” and is reflected throughout the CATR Conference programming.
Conference special features this year include the following:

·      Congress Big Thinking Event, “Storytelling and strength: Voices from Indigenous theatre in Canada” featuring Sylvia Cloutier, Margo Kane, Corey Payette, and Dr. Lindsay Lachance (UBC Theatre alumnus) https://www.congress2019.ca/calendar/1307

·      Two International Keynote Speakers:

o   Dr. Petra Kuppers, award-winning, internationally acclaimed disability performance scholar from the University of Michigan. Dr. Kuppers will also lead a disability performance workshop at the UBC Aquatic Centre.

o   Dr. Daphne Lei, Former president of the American Society for Theatre Research and Award-winning Asian-American performance scholar from University of California Irvine. Dr. Lei will be introduced by Dr. Siyuan Liu.

·      Keynote Plenary Panel “Re-Matriating Indigenous Theatre Through Our Minds, Bodies, and Spirits” featuring Quelemia Sparrow, Dr. Lindsay Lachance (UBC Theatre Alumnus), Kim Senklip Harvey (UBC Theatre Alumnus), and moderator Dr. Dory Nason. https://www.congress2019.ca/calendar/1286)

·      Evening performances at the Dorothy Somerset Studio of Michel Tremblay’s Hosanna directed by Stephen Heatley and featuring UBC’s first MFA Acting candidate, Frank Zotter

·      In conjunction with the Canadian Society for Renaissance Studies, outdoor staged readings of John Lyly’s Galatea, a play with strong themes of environmentalism and sexuality, directed by UBC PhD candidate Katrina Dunn and performed as part of UBC’s cultural programming for Congress.

·      Performance and discussion of UBC Theatre and Film alumnus and current UBC Faculty of Education Professor Dr. George Belliveau’s research-based theatre project, Unload: Theatre with Veterans

·      Special Celebrations Featuring CATR Lifetime Achievement and Honorary Member Award Winners

·      The UBC President’s Reception for CATR

·      The Department of Theatre and Film 60th Anniversary Celebration held jointly for CATR and FSAC (the Film Studies Association of Canada) at Cecil Green Park House

·      The annual banquet, awards ceremony, and dance to be held at Cecil Green Park House

·      Conference presentations by an international gathering of members, including many past and present members of UBC’s Department of Theatre and Film such as  Kelsey Blair, Sandra Chamberlain-Snider, Eury Chang, Dr. Selena Couture, Katrina Dunn, Dr. Natalia Esling, Dr. Trish Everett-Kabut, Dr. Alex Ferguson, Claire Fogal, Becky Gold, Kim Senklip Harvey, Dr. Julia Henderson, Dr. Erin Hurley (CATR President), Dr. Siyuan Liu, Yuning Liu, Dr. Virginie Magnat (UBC-O), Dr. Melissa Poll, Tom Scholte, Dr. Jennifer Spiegel, Mark Swetz, Matthew Tomkinson, and Dr. Jerry Wasserman.

·      A book fair, pedagogy hub, and an exciting series of open events organized by UBC Congress 2019 (alongside family programming, daycare and day camps, as well as accessibility supports)

·      CATR presentation formats include open paper panels, curated panels, round tables, seminars, praxis events, workshops, and working groups.
