Congratulations to the winners of the 8th annual Air Canada enRoute Film Festival!

Congratulations to our student Yassmina Karajah (4th year Film Production) for the continued success of her short film, LIGHT! LIGHT recently took home two prestigious awards, one for ‘Best Short Film’ and the second for ‘Achievement in Direction’ at the Air Canada EnRoute Film Festival. Yassmina was the writer for the film which also marks her directorial debut. Also on the crew for the film are students Jenna Hambrook (Producer,Exec Producer, Editor), David Findlay (Producer, Casting) as well as Ben Houde-Hostland (Director of Photography). After it’s premiere at Toronto International Film Festival and screening more recently at Vancouver International Film Festival, LIGHT screened in early November at the American Film Institute Festival in LA. Up next, LIGHT has been chosen to screen at the Whistler International Film Festival on December 7 and the Dubai International Film Festival December 10th-17. Yassmina Karajah was born in Amman, Jordan, is a graduate of the Bristol Law School, and currently studies Film Production here at the University of British Columbia. Her main focus is creating character-driven films that challenge dominant social narratives and explore a diversity of diasporic voices and stories.   Check the LIGHT website for more news. Best of luck to Yassmina and all those involved!
