Congratulations to second year Film Production student, Sharon Lin, who will be accepting a Rising Star Award at the Canada International Film Festival for her film Nuclear Kitty which she wrote and directed as part of her first year’s work in the Film program.
The judges felt that her film was among the very best of the several hundreds of films submitted from over 30 countries around the world and deserving of special recognition. Only a maximum of 10 films per competition category are selected to be honored with this prestigious award.
She will be accepting her award in person at the Closing Night Awards Ceremony on March 29th at the Edgewater Casino, downtown Vancouver.
Nuclear Kitty also involved many other first and second year UBC Film students, here are the complete credits – congratulations to everyone!

The darkly comic film follows Shirley, a suburban mother living in the 1950s, who is sick of fixing TV dinners and her husband’s ties. As tensions of the nuclear war seep into the family home, she is seen making some drastic changes to her otherwise domestic lifestyle.
The Canada International Film Festival has firmly established itself among the top film festivals in Canada. Held each year in Vancouver, British Columbia, the festival brings the very best of world cinema to Canada from over 90 countries around the world. The 2014 Canada International Film Festival will be held March 28th – 29th, 2014 at the Edgewater Casino in downtown Vancouver.
