Everyone is welcome next week as UBC Theatre and Film Studies program hosts Lindsay Steenberg, UBC FIST alumna and currently senior lecturer at Oxford Brookes.
Friday March 18, 2:30-4:30, she will be a featured speaker in a roundtable on Making a Murderer along with Lisa Coulthard, Brian McIlroy and Christine Evans. In the Theatre-Film Production Building (6358 University Blvd), room 104.
Lindsay has taught in the UK and in Canada – where she received her MA at UBC Theatre and Film.  She has taught modules on many aspects of popular film and television including classical Hollywood cinema, film noir, “chick flicks,” action television and crime television.
Research
Lindsay Steenberg joined Film Studies at Oxford Brookes in September 2010.  She received her PhD from the University of East Anglia where she wrote her thesis on forensic science and female investigators in crime film and television.  This research was funded by the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada and is currently being adapted and expanded into a monograph on forensic science in American popular culture.
Her highly regarded 2012 book Forensic Science in Contemporary American Popular Culture (Routledge) is widely considered the most important single publication on crime television in the last five years.
