Congratulations to UBC Film alumni Simon Barry (creator of the hit TV series Continuum) and Stephen Hegyes, who have announced their launch of a new production company, Reality Distortion Field to develop original sci-fi, horror and fantasy film and TV content for a global audience.
The duo say their Vancouver-based Reality Distortion Field will seek out projects with layered mysteries, smart mythologies, expansive worlds and heady sociopolitical themes. “As a longtime fan of genre television and movies, I’ve always wanted to establish a company and brand that reflected both my fanboy nerd roots and passion for intelligent entertainment,” Barry said. Added Hegyes, “RDF will be a brand-based company that produces multi-platform content anchored in traditional windows.”
Barry found break out success with Continuum, his first foray into the Canadian TV market, which also landed on Syfy stateside. Now he will work with Hegyes to tap Canadian and American creative talents to generate genre fare for the North American and international markets.
Continuum, the time-travel cop drama starring Rachel Nichols, is now in its third season, including on Showcase in Canada.
