“What do you value the most in life? If tested, what would you be willing to sacrifice? Exposed asks the question of each character and what they are willing to confirm, commit to, or surrender in order to get what they need. This is their journey of faith.”
Students from Acting and Film Production, spearheaded by the award-winning Bart Anderson, come together to create something especially audacious: a new feature film inspired by Lars von Trier’s Dogme 95 Manifesto that is stripped of all cinematic artifice.
Naked Cinema:Exposed – Process
Inspired by Lars von Trier’s Dogma 95 Manifesto, Naked Cinema: Exposed focuses on the traditional storytelling values of story, theme and acting.
The entire Naked Cinema project was written and shot in six weeks with a group of fourteen actors and three directors. The collective started with absolutely nothing: no preplanned themes or story, just the sole intention of creating together.
It began with a discussion about the issues and themes they were interested in exploring. Then, while engaged in a series of writing exercises which asked the artists to write about their relationship to each theme, the artists were free to create a character that resonated with them personally.
Over the next three days, the group continued to explore, creating over 40 short, one minute scenes, and creating a vast mosaic of characters and relationships.
Recurring themes and stories continued to emerge from this process and the collective was then asked to commit to ONE character and story line they wished to flesh out over the next phase of the writing.
Over the final week of dramaturgy, the cast and directors built out the arc of each character’s story, answering a central question of “What would your character confirm, commit to, or surrender to get what they desire?”
We called this their Journey of Faith.
What you will see on screen is a tryptic of stories with common threads of desire and a journey of faith.
