We heartily congratulate first-year film studies MA student, Amanda Greer, who has been selected as the winner by the committee for the William M. Jones Award for Outstanding Graduate Student Paper in American Culture presented at the National Conference from the Journal of American Culture and the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association. “This Is the End, My Friend’–Aural Focalizations of Trauma in Apocalypse Now (1979) and Vietnam Combat Films will be awarded formally at our annual conference in Seattle in March. Amanda Greer Bio: Amanda is a first-year film studies MA student at UBC, having recently completed an Hon. BA at the University of Toronto in Cinema Studies and English Literature. Her research focuses on gender and sexuality in film and television. In addition to the Journal of American Culture, Amanda has a forthcoming article in Concordia’s art history journal, ‘Third Floor,’ which was also presented at San Francisco State University’s graduate conference. She was most recently published in U of T’s film journal, ‘Camera Stylo.’ Passionate about women’s contributions to the arts, Amanda has worked as co-editor of Women Writing Letters, Volumes 2, 3, and 4, and as a Special Events and Communications Assistant with Women in Film and Television-Toronto.
