Film Production 4th year student Farhad Ghaderi
Film Production BFA Farhad Ghaderi is in his final year of the UBC Theatre and Film program and is already hired for a project that is in development.
“The River and the Shadow” is a dynamic documentary portrait that delves deep into the heart of Fort St. John, British Columbia. Directed by award-winning filmmakers Jennifer Chiu and Jessica Parsons, the recipients of the 2016 BC Ignite Award for Outstanding Female Key Creative for their film CABBIE at VIFF, Farhad has been brought on board as Director of Photography.
Farhad grew up in Mexico City, and has always had a passion for the arts, photography and cinematography. He is passionate about conveying true emotion and strives to express intimacy through visual imagery. His work has been recognized with works published internationally in various publications like Vogue Italia, Worbz, BLUR and LightOut Magazine. Farhad aims to use natural and available light, alongside intimate settings as much as possible. He is currently finishing his BFA in the Film Production program at the University of British Columbia.
Farhad’s thoughts on his time at UBC:
“It’s been quite a ride these past 4 years at UBC. Four years full of crazy and amazing experiences, unexpected situations and most importantly, great friendships. To be honest, being a film student in a big “research focused” university can be quite challenging, and it pushes you to your limits, but that is why it’s totally worth it. It’s the challenge that helps you grow as a filmmaker and as an artist. The one thing that I think has been key in my growth is the people around me, in and out of the film program. It’s UBC’s tremendous diversity and this environment of constant dialogue and exchange of ideas coming from so many different perspectives that’s so inspiring. Filmmaking is all about collaboration and community, and that’s the main driving force in our program. It’s impossible to make great films without collaboration, and I’m incredibly thankful for the talented people that I’ve seen grow, that I’ve learned from and that I’ve worked with for the past few years. “
