Professor Ernest Mathijs, Chair of the Editorial Board of Participations, an open, peer reviewed online academic journal, has written the introduction to the most recent edition (Volume 17, Issue 1) mentioning upcoming initiatives on censorship and a critical examination of the hijacking of the term ‘engagement’.
The current edition of Participations (May 2020), includes the Themed Section, co-edited by Judith Rosebaum (University of Maine), and the theme is “Activism”, particularly relevant at this time. Participations has developed a strong tradition of publishing “Themed Sections” and a good number of these are now planned and developed by members of our Editorial Board. They also welcome other proposals.
Participation continues to provide a focal point – a coming-together-place – for all kinds of work under the general and generously understood heading of “audience and reception studies”. The Journal aims to include and embrace work across all fields of media and culture, from a wide range of theoretical and methodological bases, giving space to a full range of questions and debates.
Participations comes out twice a year, May and November, and they welcome submissions at any point in the year.
