Amanda Greer
MA Film Studies candidate Amanda Greer was recently published in the Journal of American Culture. Her paper won the William M. Jones Award for Outstanding Graduate Student Paper at the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association’s annual conference in Seattle in March, 2016.
The paper is titled, “‘This is the end, my friend’: Aural Focalizations of Trauma in Apocalypse Now (1979) and Vietnam Combat Films.”

Amanda Greer is a second-year Film Studies M.A. student at UBC. Her research focuses on affect and the maternal body in contemporary horror cinema, funded by a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grant. She has presented papers at the Film-Philosophy conference in Edinburgh, San Francisco State University’s annual film conference, and the American Culture Association’s yearly conference, where she also received the William M. Jones Award for Outstanding Graduate Student Paper. In addition to the Journal of American Culture, Amanda has also published articles in Concordia University’s art history journal, Third Floor, and the University of Toronto’s film journal, Camera Stylo.
