Meegin Pye
Meegin Pye has combined her love of the outdoors with her talent for storytelling in theatre to create a piece called Integral Elimination for the upcoming Vines Art Festival, Saturday August 20 at Trout Lake Park.
“Integral Elimination stemmed from my experience moving from a small town to the city and the mixed feelings that I had while trying to adapt to the different lifestyle and city mentality. Incorporating the thoughts of one young woman as she tries to make sense of the way humans are currently living, she challenges herself to pause, reflect, and reevaluate the pattern of living and the morals we bend and break.”
Bio:
Meegin Tahirih Pye is a 2016 graduate from UBC BFA Acting. Originating from the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, her weekend plans growing up consisted of outdoor adventures including hiking, camping and sailing. Alongside her love of the outdoors, she found her way into theatre at a young age including serving for three years as a youth advisor to One World Youth Dance Theatre on Vancouver Island. There she discovered her inspiration to pursue a life in the arts and has since explored various aspects from costume design to technical theatre to acting. All of these experiences propelled her to make the move to the “big city” of Vancouver to attend UBC. Since graduating, Meegin has started to write her own work and will be showcasing her first piece ‘Integral Elimination’ at the Vines Arts Festival on August 20th in Trout Lake Park. Over the next few years Meegin plans on showcasing more of her work and will be popping up around the city in performance including ‘Love, Lust & Lace’ an original collective work in Vancouver Fringe Festival at the Firehall Arts Centre.
Other credits include Face to the Wall/Fewer Emergencies (1), Eurydice (Loud Stone), The Tenant of WIldfell Hall (Helen Graham), The Bacchae 2.1 (Tattoo Artist), Marion Bridge (Theresa). She has also performed in The Children’s Hour (Ensemble Theatre Company), Shipyard Pals Walking Tour (NVMA/Presentation House), The Rimers of Eldritch, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, and Romeo and Juliet (Malaspina Theatre).
My experience at UBC:
Attending UBC was a refreshing experience. From the first day I knew I was surrounded by an array of talented, strong-hearted people in production, design and acting. The faculty are a driving force and worked hard to enhance our learning, I am especially grateful for all of the outside professionals that they brought in to provide us with a smorgasbord of skills and connections. You gain as much, if not more, from what you put into it. Over the entire three years, I felt encouraged to challenge myself, increase my capacity as an artist and take confidence in my own individuality. At every step of the way, I knew someone, whether classmate or professor, was supporting me even when I wasn’t able to completely support myself.
