Join us for a free mini film festival to celebrate National Canadian Film Day!
We will be screening three short films created by students in our FIPR 469 class as part of the Rogers Multicultural Film Program. These films explore stories about community and culture through our students’ diverse global perspectives.
The course is taught by instructor Alejandro Yoshizawa in support with Pegah Tabassinejad, our 2023/24 Phil Lind Multicultural Artist in Residence.
There will be a reception (with refreshments) following the screening, where a winner will be announced!
Schedule:

7:30 pm – Post show reception & winners announced
The following short films will be screened:
A Good Night Out
After a personal experience that leaves them with questions, two friends investigate nightlife safety and harassment in Vancouver’s Granville Entertainment District. Interlaced with interviews of bar-goers, industry workers and those who dedicate themselves to ensuring safety, the film asks what makes a good night out.
Boxes
Two Taiwanese-Canadian siblings in different stages of their life—a reserved older brother frozen with regret and a sweet younger sister unable to let go of her cherished memories—meet again under the weight of their beloved grandma’s death. As the two are forced to unpack everything their grandma left behind, they must face each other, and in doing so, redefine the grief they have been struggling to bear.
