‘Indigenous Feminisms, Art in Practice’ focuses on creative practices and knowledge production. The event will feature a number of performances and provocations – ranging from the poetic to the performative, from film to installations. The performances and provocations will both engage with on-going debates within Indigenous studies and Indigenous performance aesthetics. The event will include contributions by artists, filmmakers, performers, writers and academics (though so far most of the people we’re inviting fit into more than one of these categories) that generally are grounded in the theme of representations and enactments of Indigenous feminisms through performance, broadly defined.

The format of this event offers a more conversational style exchange, as opposed to a panel format. Each participant will bring a provocation, question or topic to share with the other speakers and they will engage and respond to each provocation. The third day consists of workshops with the invited scholars, artists and performers. These include creative writing, poetry, storytelling and storyboarding workshops that will allow for small groups of graduate students to work together and culminates in the sharing of works.
