Gavan, a fourth year double major in Theatre and History, has been hired on as Gateway Theatre’s Artistic Intern, working with the artistic team helping them prep for their fantastic 2016/2017 season. Working mostly with the Artistic Associate, she helps schedule and organize auditions, research potential indie theatre partners, and archives and organizes past production material. She is also in charge of putting together Gateway’s Culture Days Workshop.
“Every day in the office is a new and exciting adventure, “ enthuses Gavan. “I’m constantly learning so much from the amazing people who are a part of the Gateway team.”
What Gavan has to say about UBC life:
“My name is Gavan Cheema and I’ve spent the last 4 years at UBC involved in theatre, dance, and residence life, while pursuing a double major in History and Theatre Studies. I am a strong advocate for using theatre as means to build community, celebrate diversity and make political statements. I have high hopes that one day my artistic voice will be able to shed light on issues or people that are often left in the dark in our communities. I will be embarking on my 5th and final year at UBC where I plan to direct the UBC Players Club MainStage and the UBC Bhangra Club Cultural Show. When I’m not in the studio or classroom I can often be found hanging out with my friends, hiking or having a cup of delicious coffee.”
