Production MFA Film Candidate Karin Lee’s Controversial TV Pilot – “Plan b”



event_plan_b_2014“Plan b” expands our awareness on and explores the fragility of choice and freedom of speech. The main character, Ruby Harper (Julia Benson), lands a job as an abortion clinic counselor. Pro-life protesters find a willing citizen to convert in the seventeen year old boyfriend of thirteen year old Alannah (Niki Wipf) who must make a serious decision about her pregnancy. The series is politically relevant, touching, funny, and is a tribute to all those who care for, support, and want women to be able to make their own choices about their bodies and their lives.

A Vancouver-based filmmaker, Karin Lee received an Canadian Academy of Film and Television Gemini Award in 2001 for her feature documentary “Made in China” as well as the designation of Best Feature Documentary from the San Diego Asian American Film Festival. Lee’s films have received many nominations, awards and prizes and have been in the official selection of numerous film festivals around the world. In 2005, she received a special BC Leo nod for her work, including a $10,000. prize which came with the Diversity in Cultures Award sponsored by Omni TV and the BC Leo Awards. She has been making films and media works for over 20 years.
