Liesl Lafferty – (BA in Theatre from the University of Guelph, Ontario)
Currently, she is in the second year of an MFA in Playwriting from the Creative Writing and Theatre Departments at the University of British Columbia.
Liesl is a Jessie award-winning director, dramaturg and playwright, focusing mainly on creating new plays. Recent productions of her original work include: Thump Thump a short play at the Brave New Play Rites 2017, Canary a Staged Reading at the Firehall Arts Centre in 2016, and two professional productions presented by Kickstart Disability Arts and Culture and Realwheels Theatre in 2015. As she creates her thesis play, Liesl pursues research in cultural and ability diversity, with the aim of bringing her community to the stage. In Creative Writing courses, she pens in related disciplines such as; Advanced Writing for the Screen, Television and Creative Nonfiction. Liesl is the Producer of Brave New Play Rites, an annual festival of short plays by UBC creative writing students. And, she is the President of the Board of Directors for Wet Ink Collective, a group of professional theatre women developing new plays.
