Film Production alumnus Drew Pollins film Dollar King won two Emmy’s at The College Television Awards: Best Comedy + Best Comedy Writing. In the rich tradition of the Emmy Awards, these awards recognize student innovation and achievement in storytelling at a star-studded gala and offer a glimpse into the future of television. This year’s College Television Awards were held May 24, 2017 at the Saban Media Center in North Hollywood, California.

Originally from Pleasanton, California, Andrew moved to Vancouver, BC in 2009, where he received his BFA in Film Production and worked as a casting assistant on Psych, Hell on Wheels and the television adaptation of Fargo. His short film Backward Fall won more than a dozen Best Film, Audience Choice and Directing awards during its festival run, including the Leo Award for Best Student Production and was soon after acquired for broadcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Drew went on to accept a fellowship from the American Film Institute Conservatory (AFI), where in 2016, he received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Film Directing. Three of the films that Drew directed at AFI were nominated for Emmy’s at the 2017 Academy of Television Arts and Sciences College Television Awards: Dollar King (2016), Lost Chocolate: A Skateboard Story(2016), and The Plumber (2016).
