What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?

What kind of creative work do you see yourself doing in the next few years?

In the upcoming years I’m looking to seek more theatrical opportunities both on stage as an actor and behind the scenes as a stage manager. Lauren Ohh

Lauren Ohh is a Toronto and Vancouver-based artist who is passionate about telling intersectional stories on the page, stage, and screen. UBC credits include: For the Love of Citrus!, Saint Joan of the Stockyards, The Very Book Indeed, and The Last of the Pelican Daughters.

What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?

Watching my friends perform after years of witnessing their dedication was a massive privilege. Being in the audience of The Arsonists made me feel like a Directioner in the front row of the Take Me Home tour.

Moreover, rehearsals for The Last of the Pelican Daughters and co-devising Gnocchi taught me about efficient collaborative processes that I hope to incorporate into future projects.

What kind of creative work do you see yourself doing in the next few years?

Next year, I’ll keep auditioning for theatre, film and TV while I complete my creative writing minor at UBC. I’d love to PA and/or shadow/assist crew members on a few film sets. So, if you’re reading this and you’re filming something, and you need a 3rd AD, or a script supervisor,  or perhaps a PA, let me know!

I also hope to get more involved in improv and eventually apply for a creative writing MFA!

What is your dream role?

It’s a huge dream of mine to portray a character that I’ve written. Emma in People, Places & Things is also a challenge I’d love to take on one day. A non-binary role in a show like Girls and acting in something wildly absurd are dreams as well.

Who is your favourite playwright?

Probably Duncan Macmillan. However, Annie Baker, Sam Shepard, and Martin McDonagh have written both plays and films that I love.

What are some of your special skills?

I’m minoring in creative writing and I love improv! I’m also a soprano and can play the guitar, ski, skate, and canoe.

Who would you most like to have dinner with?

What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?

Staging the plays we did in the Telus Studio and Frederic Wood Theatre. Doing character exploration, scene work, and rehearsing until we staged the plays was truly a memorable experience. Dahlia-Raphael Kerr

(They/She)
BFA Acting

Dahlia is a non-binary queer performing artist and a recipient of a Centennial Scholars award. Having also graduated from Douglas College’s acting program, they have since performed in local theatre, indie films, commercials, and in drag as Phoenix HellFire. They are a silly little freak looking to create authentic soul filled performances that make people feel alive.

What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?

Creating our unhinged Naked Cinema film, being Truffledino in the Commedia dell’Arte, being Henry Condell in The Very Book Indeed and trying out a monologue from one of my dream roles (the Joker) and turning that into a drag performance. Laugh crying, and also just crying, and also just being so silly with my lovely ensemble who have become family.

What kind of creative work do you see yourself doing in the next few years?

Acting in theatre and film, drag, creating or devising shows, and dancing at raves and festivals.

What is your dream role?

When they remake The Joker I want to be the first female/non-binary human to play that character. I’m also really into Satan from the play Paradise Lost, or Glory from Watching Glory Die but I’ll probably put on those shows and cast myself anyways!

Who is your favourite playwright?

Judith Thompson

What are some of your special skills?

I’m a drag performer: my drag name is Phoenix HellFire. I also like to use a light whip in my performances.

Who would you most like to have dinner with?

I’d throw a dinner party with Satan, Jim Morrison, Patti Smith, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Macaulay Culkin, Brittany Murphy and Joaquin Phoenix. I can’t pick just one.

Rainbow Hui

(She/Her)
BFA Acting

Rainbow is an actress from Hong Kong. Her past credits include Commedia dell’arte (Susan Bertoia), Saint Joan of the Stockyards (Jacob Zimmer), Naked Cinema (Joshua Brad-Lee Garrido), The Very Book Indeed (Moya O’ Connell), and The Arsonists (Stephen Heatley). She knows how to speak Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, and she is always down for a game of mahjong!

What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?

One of the highlights of my time at UBC was our the production of The Very Book Indeed. To me, that was a creation of art about art. As the play discusses the meaning of theatre and the significance of its relationship with the audience, I felt that the whole cast and crew poured their hearts and souls into bringing about the celebration of theatre as a place that honours human nature.

What kind of creative work do you see yourself doing in the next few years?

I envision myself doing plays in local theatre and acting in film and television. I have a deep passion for acting, and in all my training, my focus has always been, ‘how do I become a better actor?’ I want to grab every opportunity I have to act and improve my skills, the same way a sword master sharpens their swords.

What is your dream role?

I dream of starring in a Studio Ghibli live-action adaptation, if they ever make one! I especially like Chihiro in Spirited Away, who shines through her strength and tenacity as a young girl in a mercenary world full of mischief and manipulation.

Who is your favourite playwright?

I like filmmaker Bong Joon-ho’s movies, from Okja to Snowpiercer to Parasite. The subjects and perspectives of his stories are unique and unconventional. I am impressed by the novelty and the depth of his ideas, and his quirky sense of humor.

Who would you most like to have dinner with?

I would like to have dinner with Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast and hear a live version of Be Our Guest, sung by a candlestick and a choir of kitchenware.

Paula Goldie

(She/Her)
BFA Acting

Paula Goldie is a Chilean-Canadian actor, singer, dancer, and choreographer currently based out of Toronto and Vancouver. Recent theatre credits include: The Arsonists (UBC) The Very Book Indeed (UBC), Puttin On the Glitz (Kempenfelt Community Players) and Tomorrowlove (UBC). Screen Appearances include: I Woke Up A Vampire (Netflix), Circuit Breakers (Apple TV +), and The Coroner (CBC).

What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?

I loved the experience of our Naked Cinema project; producing my own work along with others is such a rewarding and unique experience. We had so much fun taking material from our own lives and feeding it to make something new and alive. It has been such a pleasure to see how our work as artists and and performers has cultivated into our own personal styles over these past 4 years!

What kind of creative work do you see yourself doing in the next few years?

I absolutely love my craft and I wish to focus on bringing to life stories that need to be told. Along with acting in both film and theatre, I am passionate about writing, producing, and choreography; I love the magic that comes out of creation and sharing art with others, and I hope to do so in as many ways as possible!

What is your dream role?

My parents liked to say that I had a pretty good scream when I was a kid and that it would be fantastic in a horror film… they said they probably wouldn’t be able to watch if I was in one, but I think being in a slasher would be fun!

What are some of your special skills?

I love dance, and am trained in tap, jazz, hip hop, and musical theatre; my classmates will often catch me subtly (or not) tap dancing when I find myself thinking or needing to move! I also sing, choreograph, write, and play volleyball.

Ekaterina De Boni

(She/Her)

Ekaterina is an Italian-Russian-Belgian artist who wants to share her creativity, passion, and love for the arts with the world, hoping that they’ll share it back with her. UBC productions include: TomorrowLove (Casey), Saint Joan of the Stockyards (various), The Very Book Indeed (Mrs. Jaggard/Cleopatra), and The Arsonists (Eisenring)

What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?

Other than creating lifelong friends and colleagues, The Arsonists was my highlight at UBC. I got to play my favourite character I’ve ever played and I worked on a show that I felt was important artistically and politically. I had the greatest time with my cast-mates, worked with an incredible director, and felt overwhelming fulfilment from it.

What kind of creative work do you see yourself doing in the next few years?

I see myself doing satires and political comedies. That’s where my interests lie. I would love to direct something (I don’t know what yet, but as soon as I find out I’ll let you all know).

What is your dream role?

Roxie from Chicago. I love that you don’t have to be the best singer or dancer to play her, you just need the passion for it. And she’s hilarious. Just get me into a blonde wig already!

Who is your favourite playwright?

I’m not sure I have one yet, but I love the styles of Jean-Paul Sartre and Anton Chekhov.

What are some of your special skills?

I’m an expert horse-rider. I can dance, play the piano, and speak four languages (English, French, Russian and Italian). I can debate you down.

Who would you most like to have dinner with?

Messi. The dog, NOT the football player.
