Somnus is a non-binary, Scottish/Ukrainian settler from Amiscwaciywaskahikan (treaty 6 territory), based out of the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations. Co-Founder of independent artist organizations ‘The Chocolate Milk Art Collective’, an experimental short film and cinema house, as well as ‘MO!’, a multidisciplinary art and dance collective, both striving to unite artists in the pursuit of storytelling. Somnus is the recipient of the Hnatyshyn Foundation’ Developing Artist Grant for Acting this past year and has immense gratitude for support from teachers, mentors, family, friends as well as their partner.

What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?

Hard to pick one! It would be the people, the sunshine, and all the beautiful resources and facilities I had access to! Studio 128 became a home and a sanctuary to me.

What kind of creative work do you see yourself doing in the next few years?

I’m heading towards muppetry and mask! I’ll continue working on independent and feature film and television, find places for my craziness in the theatre, and devise and create my own work. Just stay as busy as possible having as much fun as possible!

What is your dream role?

Dream role…? Well I suppose I’ll have to dream it up and get back to you in the morning!

What are your special skills?

Singing, dancing, grip, gaff, record, mix, master, set decoration, puppetry and muppetry, full mask and half mask, sword and knife play, guitar, piano, banjo, bass, mandolin, fully graduated driver, forklift certified, familiar with heavy machinery, safety worker, comfortable on tools, basic knowledge of farming equipment, comfortable around animals, general capability to perform and understand sports, avid finger-boarder, gamer and Rubik’s cube solver.
