About

B.A., Chinese Literature, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan

Master in Theater Arts, Taipei National University of the Arts, Taiwan

Current studies: Ph.D. in Theatre studies

Supervisors: Siyuan (Steven) Liu

Yunig is interested in topics related to the modernization of Chinese opera (xiqu), and more specifically how its unique aesthetic features, lyric, virtual (xuni) and impressionistic style (xieyi) facing the new social contexts might be compromised, translated, or preserved.

After the previous academic training and the working experience in traditional Peking opera Troupe in Taiwan, she experienced all kinds of conflicts between the conventional art and modernity. Thus, she hopes to blur the dichotomy boundary between the so-called modernity and the tradition in xiqu, and to examine the continuous theatrical aesthetic.
