Santiago Farias Calderon (BA UANL, MA Royal Central School of Speech and Drama)

PhD Theatre Studies

Supervisor: Dr. Hallie Marshall

Santiago’s current research looks at the exchange of theatrical and cultural material through translation. He is particularly interested in exporting Mexican contemporary theatre to other cultures, and English and Italian are the two languages he is focusing on at this time. Santiago has published his research in specialized theatre journals in Mexico and Canada, such as the Canadian Theatre Review. His keen eye for detail and strong organizational skills have landed him with roles such as the National Coordinator for Artist Grants in Mexico’s Cultural Fund, as well as UBC Theatre Grad Coordinator for teaching assistants. Santiago’s other areas of research are urban installations as performance practices and British contemporary playwriting by women playwrights.
