(They/She)
BFA Acting
Dahlia is a non-binary queer performing artist and a recipient of a Centennial Scholars award. Having also graduated from Douglas College’s acting program, they have since performed in local theatre, indie films, commercials, and in drag as Phoenix HellFire. They are a silly little freak looking to create authentic soul filled performances that make people feel alive.
What was one of the highlights of your UBC experience?
Creating our unhinged Naked Cinema film, being Truffledino in the Commedia dell’Arte, being Henry Condell in The Very Book Indeed and trying out a monologue from one of my dream roles (the Joker) and turning that into a drag performance. Laugh crying, and also just crying, and also just being so silly with my lovely ensemble who have become family.
What kind of creative work do you see yourself doing in the next few years?
Acting in theatre and film, drag, creating or devising shows, and dancing at raves and festivals.
What is your dream role?
When they remake The Joker I want to be the first female/non-binary human to play that character. I’m also really into Satan from the play Paradise Lost, or Glory from Watching Glory Die but I’ll probably put on those shows and cast myself anyways!
Who is your favourite playwright?
Judith Thompson
What are some of your special skills?
I’m a drag performer: my drag name is Phoenix HellFire. I also like to use a light whip in my performances.
Who would you most like to have dinner with?
I’d throw a dinner party with Satan, Jim Morrison, Patti Smith, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Macaulay Culkin, Brittany Murphy and Joaquin Phoenix. I can’t pick just one.
