The Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) and Heart of the City Festival include UBC Theatre and Film alumni, adjuncts and students.
A panel discussion, entitled All Our Father’s Relations: Stories of Shared Chinese and First Nations Heritage as part of the Heart of the City Festival, will lead up to the premiere screening of Adjunct Professor Alejandro Yoshizawa’s film All Our Father’s Relations at the VAFF.
Alejandro has been the instructor in the Film Production program for the hugely popular FIPR 469A course, part of the Rogers Multicultural Film Production Program. In 2014, the course focused on Asian Canadian topics, and will be teaching it again next semester when the focus will shift to ‘Telling Community and Cultural Stories Through Film.” The course is designed for non-film students, or majors who are concurrently taking 233 (ie. first years).
The panel will take place at the Sun Yat-Sen Gardens in Vancouver and feature Alejandro, producer Sarah Ling, and two of the Grant siblings, Larry and Howard. Several excerpts from All Our Father’s Relations will be shown, as well as from Cedar and Bamboo (2010), which was produced by alumni Karin Lee. Karin will be moderating the panel. More info:
