FINDING REFUGE – A PLAYWRIGHT’S JOURNEY THROUGH REALITY AND FICTION.

Mary Vingoe will read from her play Refuge and speak about the creation process.

Refuge is playing at the Firehall Arts Center from March 18 to April 1 directed by Donna Spencer and featuring Aadin Church, Nicola Lipman, Robert Moloney, Angela Moore, Sangeeta Wylie & Frank Zotter 

Mary Vingoe was the founding Artistic Director of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival at the National Arts Centre. She is a co-founder and past Artistic Director of Toronto’s Nightwood Theatre, founding Artistic Director of The Eastern Front Theatre in Halifax, and co-founder and past Co-Artistic Director of The Ship’s Company Theatre in Parrsboro. Mary is a nationally renowned director, dramaturge, actor, teacher and playwright.  Her play Refuge has been produced at Eastern Front and HomeFirst Theatres in Halifax and Nightwood Theatre in Toronto. Refuge was a finalist for the Lieutenant Governor’s Masterworks Award and was short listed for the Governor General’ s Literary Award for Drama in 2016.

Mary is the recipient of the 2009 Portia White Award, the Mayor’s Award for Achievement in Theatre, the Merritt Award for Lifetime Achievement and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2011 she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
